Living in Heaven on Earth

Matthew 5:10-12

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." 

Greek word persecuted: to be put to flight The English definition is: to subject someone to hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of religious beliefs. 

Greek word kingdom: royal power, sovereignty, reigns

Greek word heaven: from the skies, heavens, lofty heights
Greek word revile: to reproach--denounce, insult
Greek word falsely: to lie, false testimony, false witness

By now, we have an understanding of our blessings as children of the Father, Jesus Christ, and how he delights to live in every part of our lives within our hearts. We are called to be set apart from the world by how we live our lives differently from the world (James 4:4-10). We are not sitting on fences waiting on the return of the bridegroom, or at least we shouldn't be doing the waiting game of life for our coming home party but have our lamps lit ready for a wedding feast with other siblings in Christ Jesus. 

Our sinful nature before Jesus, made us at opposition with him in our lives. Now, we are compelled to bare witness to the transformation power of the Father within us to the world. Nobody wants to be informed that they are in the wrong,and as sinners ourselves shouldn't judge but share God's law, especially when they think compared to others in the world they are good.

Let's break these two "Be-Attitudes" down...

Persecuted for righteousness sake

The righteousness we have received came with the Holy Spirit. We as Christians are called to be set a part from the world. 2 Corinthians 7:1 says, "Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of the body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God." We should not even resemble what the world is like, especially when our lives mirror Jesus. The word of God says, "Therefor, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect" Matthew 5:48. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we will become more like Him. Nobody likes different, but so what? God promises us in His word that, (Isaiah 54:17)

"No weapon formed against you shall prosper,

And every tongue which rises against you in judgment

You shall condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the Lord."

God will fight your battles as we learned yesterday as being peacemakers. There is no need for us to be offended, quarrelsome, angry, dismayed, or have hurt feelings when people poke fun of our faith. They make the choice as we did to believe in Jesus the source of our salvation, to surrender, follow, and serve, or reject the Father. So, when they persecute us for righteousness sake, they are rejecting Jesus, and we should not take it personally in our own spirit. 

Your's is the kingdom of Heaven

Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Paul wrote this about his own persecution to express that in the earthly body, though imprisoned and tortured, he lives not to himself but for Christ. Even though, eventually he would be put to death for the sake of Christ, he says, "to die is gain," because he will be in the presence of Jesus in heaven. We have the same guarantee. Paul's ministry is a great example of how we should endure while ministering to this world. We should not fear the persecution of mankind, but look towards God's approval. I know personally, I have struggled in the past with this, but as I am studying and drawing closer to my Father, I want to be approved by God when he says, "well done my good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21)

Our reward for faithful relationship and service to the Father, is that we get to live eternity with Him in the physical in heaven on earth. This is why I used the title. We have a loving, merciful, and just God. He is all knowing, all powerful, ever present and perfect. Nothing that is in opposition with God will enter the kingdom of God. We are to be Gospel sharing, God honoring, always loving, peacemakers for Christ. 

Reviled, Rejected, and Rumored

I encourage you to read Isaiah 53 and see that being mirror images of Jesus in our lives, by living as He would have us live, we will be reviled, rejected, and lied about (rumored). Isaiah 53, is a prophesy about Christ Jesus the Messiah, salvation for our sins. When we stand up about issues in today's media that go against God's word, we will be rejected, reviled, and have lies told about us. People love to gossip and point fingers, but our response should be long suffering and show kindness as our response when presenting the Word of Truth.

Rejoice and be Glad

Psalms 118:19-24..."This is the day the LORD has made, I will be glad and rejoice in it." (v. 24) We have reason to hope and that is Jesus who is our salvation and eternal promise of freedom from our sins. There was not a single day of lasting joy or happiness in my life until I fully surrendered to Jesus as my savior. Philippians 1:9-11 Paul prayed, "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." That is a prayer for all Christians who live like Jesus would because of the Spirit within us. We have all hope and love of a Father who has adopted us as His own. Remember that Helmet of Salvation, we have a promise of our salvation which is hope and the Word of God to keep us trained in righteousness. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!! Yeah Jesus! May your praise ever be on my lips, O God! 

Prophets Persecuted Before Us

Acts 7:51-60 is about Stephen who was martyred for his faith in Jesus. Here we see a good example of what it means to live for Christ until death. My friends and family, like on judgement day, we will have to account for our choices, we will face the judgement of mankind. God is the only one who is just. Mankind's spirit alone is at war with God because of sin. The prophets knew this and were persecuted unto death in many cases throughout the bible. I am not saying this to scare you, but to motivate you to stand firm in the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Stephen looks up to heaven and sees Jesus on the throne. 

Look at the times we live in now my friends. We need to take our stand against the devil and all his lies. Abortion, it is murder; homosexuality, is sexual sin and an abomination to God; transgender, is a sexual sin and blasphemy to God because God makes no mistakes; Adultery, is a sexual sin even pornography and BDSM or strip/sex clubs are included; drug addiction is a form of demonic oppression; little white lies are the same as big ones; taking something by accident is stealing; being rude, talking back in a disrespectful manner, or screaming at your parents are being disobedient and not honoring them as God commanded you to do; making God into something He isn't is Idol worship....

Jesus said of the commandments, if you follow the two he gave, you will be able to obey the law given to Moses. Matthew 22:36-40 Jesus replied to the disciples question, 

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Keeping these things in mind we have such hope that the world doesn't have to share with others. Meet the Peacemaker

Matthew 5:9:
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons (and daughters) of God."

*A peacemaker is a person who brings about peace, especially by reconciling adversaries.

If you have ever watched a western film, you may have heard the gun of a notorious sheriff call his gun a "peacemaker." Well, as Christians, we carry a sword, and full body armor like a knight in the Middle Ages. As we will learn in the final two of the "Be-Attitudes," we will face opposition from the world we live in, because of what we put our faith in is contrary to popular majority. We will be persecuted, so the whole armor of God is necessary.

Ephesians 6:10-18:
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth (Isaiah 11:5), and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (1 Thessalonians 5:8), and as shoes for your feet (Isaiah 52:7), having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith (Philippians 1:3-7), with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;(1 John 5:4) and take the helmet of salvation (Isaiah 59:16-19; Romans 1:16-8), and the sword of the Spirit (Philippians 1:19- 21) which is the word of God (Hebrews 4:11-13; John 1:1-5, 14)."

Against any weapon of the devil, our armor as children of God and soldiers of Christ, when worn according to God's purpose, cannot be penetrated. We must carry the love of Jesus wherever we go in order to pierce the hearts of mankind with the Gospel.
Isaiah 54:17 says,

"No weapon formed against you shall prosper,

And every tongue which rises against you in judgment

You shall condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the Lord."

We have hope and a promise of salvation to carry to the world, in everything we say and do in this world. The Gospel should be ever present in our minds and thoughts about others. We are called to be peacemakers. Those who are called according to God's purpose and not our own agenda like the rest of the world. Jesus was saying that we have a real relationship with Him as His children. Those who do not choose to acknowledge their sin even when being presented with the truth of the Word of God, live riding the fence, never coming to a full surrender to Jesus as their salvation will face hell on judgement day. We have a loving God, who is merciful, and also just to fulfill His promises and will serve as Supreme Judge on judgement day. We as peacemakers, should not shy from lovingly point them to the hope of God's forgiveness of sins.

We wonder how this world has gotten so bad with terrorism, homosexuality (including transgender), diseases, homeless, broken homes, child abuse, spousal abuse, vengeance, greed, jealousy, hopeless; and it is because we have lived on the fence too long as "Christians" without speaking out against sins but have conformed to co-exist with the world. (Romans 12:1-2) 

James 4:4-10 says,

"Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to  gloom.Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up."

We are called children of God because we have a real relationship with the Father. He is alive and actively participating in out lives through the Spirit. We have a calling to reconcile adversaries to adoption in Jesus Christ through the testimony and sharing of the Gospel lived out in our lives. We rise up and go to sleep with Jesus as our peace and hope in salvation.

I pray that you will take this as a refreshed light of purpose in your life with Jesus as your guide through the Spirit within you. God' fights my battles for me! Exodus 14:14 says, "The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." The Pure in Heart See God

Matthew 5:8
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

The Latin word pure: not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material, free of contamination.
Greek word heart: of mind and spirit
Greek word see: to recognize, appearance (appear), behold, suffer, undergo, underwent, witnessed

I have heard people that say they are Christians and those who are not, that they have never seen God. Of course we cannot in our mortal bodies, look upon the actual face of God without being blinded by His radiance, but we can behold Him in the things that happen in our lives and give our testimony or witness to the world. If you are a Christian and haven't seen God work in your life, then go in your prayer room, wherever it may be and go before the Father in prayer and confess sin. The Bible says that we should confess our sins before God and be renewed (Acts 3:19). Our confession only brings us closer in our relationship with God.

ln order to be pure, we must not allow things in our lives that would contaminate ourselves from truth and a right relationship with the Father. Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that come to God must believe that he is, and that he is the reward of them that diligently seek him." The heart is equated to both soul and mind. So, what we see, listen to, and partake in effect our relationship with Jesus and the world. Most of us are familiar with who Job is and his life story. Here is him being in total agreement with God. (Job 22:21-30) Even David wrote, "He won has clean hands and a pure heart who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation."(Psalms 24:4-5)

Pure of heart simply means that because the Holy Spirit within you has redeemed you and made you innocent, you are now reborn and purified by the blood of Jesus. You are no longer contaminated by the world, because you no longer have a desire to be contaminated by the world. You begin to get a shaking within you when you do something that is offensive to God. I have said it before, there is no escape from the Father's reach. He has a 360 degree view of your life and in tune audio to what you here. To top it off, he even knows what you are thinking. We have a Father who loves us so much he corrects us when we are dead wrong and humbles us to repentance. If we stay after God in everything we do, and follow His will for us, by keeping His laws (Matthew 22:36-40).

When we fully commit to God and start to imitate Him, you begin to see God because of what He is working all around you, including your own life. God is omnipresent which means He is everywhere. Since God is not bound to space and time, He is everywhere, anytime, always. God is omnipotent, so he knows everything too.(Hebrews 4:11-13) He's like that friend that no matter what you try to do to make him go away he never does, no matter what happens (Hebrews 13:5-8) He is constant in His love for us and we should seek after Him continually. The will God has for us is found in the Bible. We will never know anything without the Holy Spirit in our hearts to reveal it to us.

Mercy Lived Out Reproduces More Mercy

Matthew 5:8:
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy."

Greek word Merciful: compassionate--a deep concern for others, sympathize to their need.
Greek word Receive: show off the gift given and share about getting the gift you received
Greek word Mercy: to show mercy, found mercy, has mercy, received mercy, shows mercy, full of mercy.
Up to this point, as a transformed person in Christ Jesus, by his Spirit within us actively leading us in everything we do in our lives, we are so compelled by the witness of the transforming power of the Gospel, it is the living water that pours continually out of our hearts. Luke 6:45:
"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."
Jesus is the treasure within us that on the forefront of our mind and written on our hearts is the one thing in our lives that has impacted us to the core of our sinful selves, and has totally taken over and transformed our hearts...even lives. This should be our lament to our Heavenly Father daily.
Psalms 86:-13:

Bow down your ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O you my God, save your servant that trusts in you.

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto you daily.

Rejoice the soul of your servant: for unto you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; and abundant in mercy unto all them that call upon you. Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon you: for you will answer me.

Among the gods there is none like unto you, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto your works. All nations which you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord; and shall glorify your name. For you are great, and do wondrous things: you are God alone.

Teach me your way, O LORD; I will walk in your truth: unite my heart to fear your name.

I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify your name forevermore.

For great is your mercy toward me: and you have delivered my soul from the depths of hell.

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set you before them. But you, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and abundant in mercy and truth. O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give your strength unto your servant, and save the son of your handmaid. Show me a sign for good; that they who hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because you, LORD, have helped me, and comforted me.

 We have had victory in this spiritual war against the devil, and it was won by our Father, Jesus. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, "It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fail not. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD." 

We have grace that cannot be gotten from the sick world of death and misery we live in today, because of Jesus and radically changing our hearts and minds to focus on him. Ephesians 2:1-10 reminds us that by the grace of God we have salvation that produces faith. Wake up people, you should be acting out the blessing you have received by sharing mercy (Titus 3:5)

Being merciful means that you are so transformed by the Holy Spirit within you. You know the depths of what it cost Jesus to show you that mercy, the Gospel, and you have became so compelled by what it cost Him to transform you from a condemned person destined for the fire pits of hell, you will never think twice about sharing life with the lost. If we never share the hope we have witnessed Jesus give us to the lost in darkness, it is as if you put a basket over your head and are trying to snuff out the light of Him living within you. If we want to see mercy, we need to share the testimony of the truth living within us no matter what it cost us. We cannot continue as Christians, the church, living with one foot on either side of the fence, one in the world and one in knowing the transformation power of Jesus Christ. He wants your everything. Trust me, I know He can handle it all. James 3:13-18 shows what being merciful looks like, and it is only gained by totally standing on the correct side of the fence, in totally relying on the transformation gained by Christ Jesus, and the counsel of the Holy Spirit within us. 

We need to be "pure in heart." That is the only way we can see God in this world everyday. We will go onto this tomorrow. Get ready friends. It's about to get really deep.

Reborn, Adopted, and Hungry

The text is Matthew 5:6:
"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be satisfied."

The Greek word for hunger means: to be hungry...
The English word that is taken from this word means three things:
(1) feeling and displaying a need
(2) causing hunger
(3) having a strong desire or craving (thirst)
The Greek word of thirst: a constant thirst, longing for a drink, consuming a lot of fuel or water.
After: this doesn't mean behind, it means to "follow close behind" like on the back of someone's heels
Righteousness: having been made right; innocent, just, righteous persons...
Satisfied: Fed, filled, satisfied; alt: a feeding place, contented, pleased.

Those that hunger and thirst, have the desire for the Holy Spirit living in them and crave His infallible (real truth) Word for daily nourishment. It is a deep feeling of need that is evidence of the relationship we have with God in us. This evidence is displayed further as our "thirst after righteousness." Which leaves us satisfied in knowing our salvation is secure and eternal. There is nothing in of ourselves we can do to earn it, but only to receive it and live it out daily (Romans 5:1-11).

To hunger and thirst after righteousness, is like a child who desires to grow up to be just like their Father, Jesus. They hold on the hand of the Father, trotting close beside Him, wanting to say and do whatever he does, being obedient and imitating Him. The love of the Father is always with them, no matter if they are away from His presence or close by Him, because they have learned what pleases Him most them and they delight to please the Father (1 John 2:6, Colossians 3:13).

This is the same hope we have in our adoption as son's and daughters of the Father. When we seek to live out righteousness and staying in right relationship with the Father. Our Father corrects us by a stirring of the spirit within us. It is like an uneasy feeling as if something isn't quite right. We find peace and contentment in having a thirst within us, a craving that is an unquenchable fire that burns for a closeness with our Father. It is a hunger that is only satisfied by God's word living in us and to do His will for our lives no matter the cost. We have confidence in being a walking witness of the Gospel within us, that has transformed our lives from the fearful and hopeless existence we came from before our adoption. Praise God!

Bowed down, Cried out, and Totally Surrendered

The text is Matthew 5:3-5 if you can turn your bible to the page or are using your Bible App. I will link to the scriptures used to further inspire the meaning of the text as we go along together. My definitions come from the Strongest NASB Exhaustive Concordance and the dictionary.

Matthew 5:3 says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their's is the kingdom of heaven."

The meaning of "poor in spirit":

The Greek meaning of poor used in this text is: to be worthless,, one who crouches and cowers, a poor man.

After prayer and asking Jesus for wisdom and understanding it was revealed to me what He meant by being poor in spirit. This means that we have realized our worthlessness in the strength of our own spirit to overcome our sins (flesh desires), and defeat the principalities that battle against us. It further means that in our realization of our worthlessness, we totally surrender our lives because Christ Jesus paid the price for our sins and also defeated Satan through His resurrection,  becoming a bond-servant to the Holy Spirit, who now has made us new creations, dependent on God's word as both bread and living water to provide daily continual strength.

The reward for us is God's kingdom, heaven. This is eternal life. Our souls will live on in eternal promise of life before our Father in heaven as brother's and sister's in Christ. No matter what we face, even unto death physically, we will live on eternally, because we have faith in what we believe and live out. We cannot do it apart from God's strength because we are worthless and poor in spirit without the Holy Spirit leading our lives.

Matthew 5:4 says, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Meaning of "mourn":

The Greek meaning of the word mourn in the text is: to lament.
The English meaning of lament is:" to express regret or disappointment over something considered unsatisfactory, unreasonable, or unfair."

This is often misunderstood to only mean mourning over a person who has physically died. The actual meaning goes deeper. To mourn her in the context of the attitude of a Christian, is a lamentation to God, because the stirring of the Holy Spirit within those that have Him within them. Their heart has changed into that of a repentant servant whose deepest desires have changed into being Christ-like in all aspects of their lives. This is a response to an unsettling of the Holy Spirit telling us when something isn't up to His standard in our lives. This includes what we see, hear or do in our lives. God has a 360 degree view in High Definition to our thoughts, and what we listen to, see happening (including TV and internet), and what we do. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

The meaning of comfort: to call for to exhort, to encourage-appeal : exhort-strongly encourage or urge someone to do something.
The bible says that believers that have came to a personal relationship with Jesus, no longer live in condemnation (Romans 8). This comfort is strong encouragement to urge us to do His perfect will in obedience of His commandments. His Spirit within us causes us to call out in respoinse to what God says that does not line up with the Word of Truth.

Matthew 5:5 says, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

The Greek meaning of the word meek is: to be lowly in spirit, humble
The Greek meaning of the word inherit is: speaking of an inheritance (present tense)
The Greek meaning of the word earth is: the land--country--nations

Being meek means :lowly in spirit,: it means that our own will in our lives have became smaller than the will of the Holy Spirit living within us. We have taken ourselves out of every situation and let the Holy Spirit within us work to guide others to the love of Jesus through the Gospel. Micah 6:8 says, "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD (Yahweh) require of you but to do justice, and love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?"

Remember, we have realized our weakness, and need for salvation. In this we have called upon the LORD and believed in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and became His bond-servant, to do His will in total surrender to our Father through Adoption (Ephesians 1). We have humbled ourselves by taking ourselves out of everything life throws our way, and are letting the Holy Spirit within us do the work of showing His love and sharing the truth of the Gospel to the world because He is directing our paths.(Proverbs 3:6; 16:11; Psalms 119:105)

Our inheritance on earth is seeing those who are lost realize their need to repent and turn to Jesus and be reborn as new creations in Christ Jesus, because we have demonstrated what it is to live out a lifestyle set apart as a Christian.

It is so awesome to have been given by God the privilege and responsibility to share the Word of God as truth in a world that needs it and wisdom to those who will open their hearts to receive the Gospel message of hope in their lives.

I am Susan Peterson, a mother of two adult children, daughter of two loving parents, and most of all I am a child of the Most High God. Seven years ago, God called me to ministry after asking Him in my heart two years prior. I went to Bible college at Liberty University online for two and a half years and at that point I got injured in a domestic abuse situation and began to doubt God's plan in my life. I was hurt physically and spiritually, I left the church completely and didn't want anything to do with the church or God (Proverbs 16:9). Two years ago, I moved into a better place, and began to attend Fortsonia Baptist Church in Elberton, Georgia with my family. I started slow, with a women's bible study and then to church services. However, God has a plan for our lives always and knows how to touch and use your life to his Glory (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

Six months ago, God began to speak to me again in my heart about my life. He wanted me to surrender everything to Him completely (Romans 6:1-14), all the junk in my life to be gone, and heal me both physically and spiritually. I had lost faith in that God is able and His power is unmeasurable. I now have a Father who loves me and loves live inside of me (Holy Spirit), because I threw away all the junk. Two months ago, God spoke to me and said to me He wanted to be the treasure in my heart (Matthew 6:21 or Luke 12:34) and wanted me to delight in His Word and be at peace with Him (Romans 2:1-11).

I can testify only to what God has done in my life and what I have seen done through others. I know for a fact, He is capable of everything, and anything you need he will supply it when we seek after His face and wisdom by a daily study in the message of hope, the Bible.
